We set five new auction records at our first fall sale of Illustration Art last Thursday, including new high prices for Erté, Harvey Kidder, Allen Saalburg and Georges Lepape, whose 1927 Vogue cover, Le Miroir, sold for $52,500.
A recently rediscovered original watercolor by Dr. Seuss for Tadd and Todd, 1950, went to a private collector for $23,750. The New Yorker cartoons and covers performed well, with a full-page Addams Family cartoon by Charles Addams, featuring Morticia and Lurch, going for $20,000.
The next auction for the Illustration Art department will be held in Spring 2017.
We accept consignments on a rolling basis: more information on selling at Swann.
