We decided to start by celebrating the past year. From million-dollar sales to newly-discovered canvases,   2015-16 was too exciting to keep to ourselves.

The Art Collection of Maya Angelou  came to Swann for a short but well-attended sale that started our auction season in September 2015. Before the auction, much of the work from the collection had never been publicly displayed, which made this a unique opportunity to see a more private side of an influential cultural force.

Listen to Pulitzer Prize winner Gregory Pardlo speak about Dr. Angelou's poetic legacy here .

Anne and Margot Frank's inscribed copy of Grimm's Fairy Tales sold in our May Autographs  auction to The Museum of World War II outside Boston. This was the first major offering of Anne Frank material at auction in over two decades. One of the last offerings was a set of letters sent by Anne and Margot to their American pen-pals  sold by Swann for $165,000 in 1988 . Read the full story here , or in The New York Times
